Meet our statuesque Ragnar. We say that because he has a beautiful profile, and looks like a statue when standing or sitting. He is a very handsome dog, and quite friendly. He came to us by Animal Control and we are very glad to have him here with us. Ragnar is currently being leash trained and according to our kennel staff, he is a very strong boy. He will work well with those who can handle that strength on a leash. Ragnar is good with kids too. Stop by and meet Ragnar at the shelter!

About Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark

About Our Shelter...

At the Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark we are passionate about ensuring the protection and welfare of all animals in need. This is the legacy of our founder Robert Kleinstuber, who began the shelter in 1959 as a memorial to his beloved dog, Jeff.

Our mission today is to provide a high standard of humane care for animals; to foster an environment of respect, responsibility and compassion for all animals and those who seek our services; to reduce the population of homeless animals; and to nurture the bond between people and animals through leadership, education and community engagement.

We envision a community in which it is unacceptable to neglect, abuse or abandon animals; in which homeless or lost animals will be given refuge in a facility supported by the entire community; and that works collectively to ensure that every adoptable animal finds a lifelong home.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our shelter is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 11am - 4pm. We can also be found at various local events and businesses who allow us to host adoption events!

Our Adoption Process...

We require all of our adopters to go through an application process that generally takes about 48 hours to complete. Veterinary references and homeowner/landlord information is requested. If there are other pets in the home, we recommend a meet and greet to assess compatibility. In home visits may be conducted in some situations. Adoption fees vary based on the animals.
