Cassie's adoption donation is $200 and she is being fostered in Central Ohio.  Cassie has been spayed, microchipped, received her rabies, distemper/parvo and bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on prevention as well as flea prevention.

Adorable Cassie is a special little Shih Tzu girl and quite the survivor!  She came into rescue with 5 other dogs from a hoarding situation near Cincinnati.  These dogs suffered incredible abuse and neglect, but 9 year old Cassie required the most medical attention.  She had both ACLs torn and required surgery to repair those as well as both of her wrists dislocated and required surgery to fuse the joints.  Cassie has been a trooper through it all.  Our hope was that she would be able to walk once her surgeries were completed, however, that was not to be.  We then discovered that due to the neglect she suffered, she would never be able to properly use her hind legs to walk.  But Cassie is very determined and scoots to get whatever she wants!  She has a wheelchair that is available to her as well, but Cassie can be a stubborn girl and 'just wants to do it herself'.  She is full of personality and does not let any other dog intimidate her.  Cassie may not be able to walk, but she deserves to have a family of her own who loves and cares for her!  She does well on housetraining if taken outside regularly.  She will require a home with a strong veterinary reference and no children under the age of 8.

PLEASE NOTE:   If you are viewing this biography on a website other than the Ohio Fuzzy Pawz website, not all information transfers to partner websites in some instances.  If you go to the individual webpage of our dogs, you will be able to get more information each dog.

Visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable so, in many cases, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Our Adoption Process

The adoption process has several steps involved. Please review prior to submitting an application. Our adoption process is detailed here:

Our volunteers work very diligently to process each application and we try to ensure that we are making the best match possible for each dog.  We do not schedule meetings with dogs until an application has been approved.  It can take up to a few weeks to process an application or as little time as a few days, from the time you submit an application, please be prepared to adopt as we cannot hold dogs.

Special Requirements

Some dogs may have special requirements (for example, medications, a fence) -- if you apply for a dog, please be sure to read over the biography completely to see if there are any special needs and if you're home would be suitable.  If we indicate on the dog's biography that a fence is required, this means your home must have a physical fence.  Other dogs may require a "strong vet reference" which indicates that we are looking for a home that has a documented history of veterinary care with previous pets.

The first step in our process is to submit an online adoption application at  The application MUST include the personal references and veterinary, grooming, and landlord references (if applicable) and their respective contact information.  If you do not include the references and the contact information, your application will be delayed as it CANNOT be processed.  Once the references have been successfully completed, a home visit is then scheduled when a rescue representative can meet all members of the family or residents of the home.  No application is approved prior to the home visit being done.   At that point, the Directors will discuss any and all applications on a foster dog and make a selection--in many cases, there are multiple applications for each dog, so please be understanding that our only priority is the successful placement of each of our foster dogs.

Out of State Adoptions

We do adopt out of state to outstanding applicants, however, our process requires a home visit, so out of state adoptions can take longer.  We do not ship our dogs, adopters should be prepared to pick up the dog in Central Ohio.

About Our Rescue Group...

We rescue, rehabilitate and re-home Shih Tzus and other small breed dogs into permanent adoptive homes. Ohio has a significant number of small breed dogs that end up in shelters and we are dedicated to reducing and ultimately eliminating the need for euthanization for space.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not have a shelter that you can visit as we are a foster home based organization. The first step in our process is to SUBMIT AN ONLINE APPLICATION at

Our Adoption Process...

The first step in our process is to submit an online application at to get the process started. We do NOT schedule meet and greets prior to an application being approved.

Please read the dog's complete bio on our website at and read over our adoption guidelines as most of your questions can be answered there.

Adoption fees are based on the age of the dog and not the vet fees incurred to be fair to older dogs and give them a better chance at adoption. All dogs are spayed and neutered prior to adoption and receive at least their first round of vaccines, including rabies, distemper/parvo and bordetella. We also microchip all of our dogs. They are also heartworm tested and on prevention. We do not adopt on a first-come, first served basis but do attempt to match the dog to the family that best suits the dog. We require personal references, landlord (if applicable), and vet reference.
