Hi everyone! My name is Marshall. My foster mom told me that “every dog has their day”, my day was when I was pulled from the shelter. I am now living the good life with my foster mom and my two human foster brothers. I love all people, young and old. I really like to snuggle whether it be on my foster mom and brothers or with a nice soft blanket. I love to play with my foster brothers and my toys (especially the stuffed ones). I can play a good game of fetch. I also enjoy playing tug-o-war, I have a unique way of playing that though, I lay on the floor and my brothers pull me around, check out my video on my profile page and the Ruff Start Rescue Facebook page. My foster mom says I play ‘keep away’ very well too. Going for walks is one of my favorites! I hear my mom jingle her keys and I get all excited, foster mom says I bounce like a rabbit. If you say the word ‘walk’ I will be by the door waiting or sometimes I like to run around in circles. I also love going for car rides, my foster mom makes me sit in the back seat, she said that I have to be safe, so I stick my head out the window and let the air go through my flappy jowls.  My foster mom tells me I am such an empathetic, smart, funny, loving boy. I know all basic commands. I only want to please my family. The only issue I have is I can be selective when it comes to my furry friends so I will need slow and proper intros. My foster mom is putting me in training to help me with socialization due to the lack of that in my past. I also have a high prey drive so I wouldn’t do well with cats or small dogs. I am crate trained, house trained and potty trained. I have to have a home with a fenced in yard and I wouldn't do good in an apartment or townhome. All I want is to find my forever family that I can live out my years with, could that be you? I will love you forever!!

About Ruff Start Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Who We Are & How We Do It

We are a small, but mighty, Non Profit 501c3 Rescue. We are a No-Kill dog and cat rescue organization in Central Minnesota. Our rescue is composed solely of volunteers who love animals. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats and work very hard to place them in new loving homes.

This group is comprised ENTIRELY of volunteers who work full-time doing something that pays the mortgage. We do the rescue stuff (which is our true passion) after work and on the weekends. So if your phone calls or emails are not answered by a live person right away, it’s probably because we are at work and will call you as soon as we can!

By Choice

We do not have a shelter. We are of the belief that a home environment is far more desirable than a shelter or kennel. So, we rely exclusively on homes like yours in which to place our pets until they find their forever home!

We work exclusively with a foster-care program where our pet lives with you, and we pay for or provide everything. A home environment is always the most desirable and with the endless supply of animals needing homes, we just never have enough lined up. Sometimes the foster lasts a week, sometimes several months. A dog or cat will do far better adjusting when they are sitting by your chair or next to you while you are on the computer than stashed in a noisy kennel somewhere surrounded by sick and barking dogs.

We Can't Take Every Surrendered Pet
Because we don’t have a shelter, we can only take a new animal IF we have a vacant foster home for the pet to live while we seek a new forever home for him. OR, if you agree to hang onto the pet while we help them find a new home. Sadly, we are not able to assist every animal that crosses our path. There are just too many dogs & cats out there who need help. But, we DO have an extensive list of people looking for specific dogs and cats - so if you can hang onto your pet for a little longer, we might be able to assist you in placing them. No promises, but we promise to do our very best to help you find your pet their new forever home!

Come Meet Our Pets...

All of our animals are in foster homes. If you would like to meet a foster animal, please fill out an application on our website:! We also have our animals available at adoption events at local Petsmarts! (Monticello, Maple Grove, and Coon Rapids).

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption process we go through is to have the potential adopter fill out an application on our website: There is then a background check done on the potentional adopter and if they pass the background check and home visits we set up a home visit! If the home visit passes, the adopter can then adopt the animal they're looking at after meeting them.

There is an adoption fee. This fee depends on the vetting that the animal has already needed. If the animal is too young and has not yet been spayed or neutered, you are required to sign a contract and agree to have them spayed or neutered.
Adoption fees range from $200 - $300
