My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lucy: 3 Year Old Spayed Female Black Lab Mix 58lbs.

Hello! My name is Lucy!

Or, at least that’s what my name has been since June 20th when I entered the Madera County shelter. I was found as a stray wandering the streets. My time had run out at the shelter, but fortunately, Golden Gate Lab Rescue stepped in to take me. I am now in a foster home with a great foster mom and a silly black lab foster brother. I am showing my foster momma that I already know a lot of things. Some of these things include going into my kennel/crate. I go in there whenever I need a little nap or some down time and I am quite content doing so. I also sleep in my crate at nighttime and will sleep through the night without a peep! I am great in the car and love riding in the back seat. I load right into the car and curl up on the seat and rest my head against the door. I know “sit” and “down” and am working on other my other commands such as “stay” and “kennel”. I am a really smart girl and very eager to please. I eat nicely out of my bowl at breakfast and dinnertime and am learning to wait patiently for my meals.

I get along well with other dogs as long as they are not overly pushy and can take social cues well. Mostly, I am interested in my people. I am learning to walk nicely on a leash. I wear a correction collar which helps remind me when I am pulling too much on the leash. I will need continued practice with this, but should have great leash manners in no time! I would love an active family who will make me a part of their pack. Walks, hikes, camping trips, beach days….these are the things I dream about! I am a young girl and can still find mischief if unattended or unexercised. I know the word “no” and respond very well to it when I am doing something I shouldn’t. I would love a family who is around most of the day and can continue to teach me structure and manners. I am unknown with cats, but I do correct easily so could possibly learn to cohabitate with a kitty cat in the right circumstance. I would be fine with another dog in the house as long as we have the right chemistry, but would also be very happy to be an only pup.

If you are an active and happy home with love and structure to give a young labby girl, then give my rescue rep a call! I would love to meet you!

Lucy has been spayed, brought up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, fecal sample negative, well check and HW negative.

Lucy is located in Walnut Creek.

If you are interested in Lucy, call Rescue Rep Morgan, 925-726-9616.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
