Facts about Bernie

  • Breed: Labrador Retriever/Hound (Unknown Type) Mix
  • Color: Black
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Male
Bernie is one handsome dude and when our vet told us that someone had left him at her clinic because they did not want him we could not believe that. We since learned that the family who had him also had six other dogs that were "fighters" Bernie was the kind of dog that got PICKED ON by the other dogs and when they attacked Bernie the owner took him to the vet's office to repair his torn ear but did not want him back when they learned he was heart worm positive.

Regardless of how handsome he is, he was also heart worm positive. That would not help get him a rescue or a home so Diamond Dogs Rescue took him under their wing rather than to see him end up in a shelter. He has completed his heart worm treatment, is current on all vaccines, is neutered, microchipped and ready for a home where he will not have to hide from other dogs! You see, he LOVES humans but is afraid of dogs because of his past.

He is currently with our trainer in NH where he's learned confidence and some basics to get ready for a home.

This black lab/mix is 1-2 years old he has learned not all dogs will attack him...but he is selective about the dogs he likes. Because of his past we feel he is best suited to a home that will have him be the only dog. He is very friendly, loves people and has a great personality. If you are a one dog family, Bernie will be an excellent choice!

About Diamond Dogs Rescue Inc - NJ Chapter

About Our Rescue Group...

Our rescue focus is on adult dogs from the southeast that are in high kill shelters. Our plan is to fully vet as needed, evaluate and train as needed in preparation for adoption. We place our rescues in a foster home setting to prepare our dogs for a home of their own and to determine the best match for that rescue. Please keep in mind that a rescues are located in foster homes up the east coast. They can be transported to their forever home

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our dogs are all in foster care throughout NJ , and New England and various other locations. We do NOT have a physical location for your to visit our dogs, They are seen by appointment in foster homes.

We require 3 references plus a vet reference as well as a home visit.Once you have been approved for adoption by filling out an application completing a home visit and having your references checked, we will put you in touch with the foster to meet the dog with your family. Sometimes we will do a home visit and bring the dog to the home visit after your application is approved.
