My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How adorable is Alfred?! He is even more handsome in realy life. And this handsome boy also has a loving, playful personality to go along with his charming looks! But this was not always the case for Alfred. When RESCUE saved Alfred he was in horrible condition. He was matted from nose to tail and his mats were embedded with burrs and sticks. He was terrified of humans as well. He was dropped off at Animal Control in this condition by his "owners." They said they were moving. It was heartbreaking to know that he was intentiong treated this way.

We immediately began cutting away as many of his mats as we could, petting and resuring him as we went. I'm happy to say that as we worked Alfred was beginning to like us. He gave a kiss and when he rolled over for a belly rub we were thrilled and happy to rub his sweet belly.

With the tender, loving care of RESCUE's amazing volunteers, we were able to continue to show Alfred that not all humans are uncaring. He thrived! Although his love for belly rubs never waned! We had to have him shaved completely but he's black and tan fuzz is growing in very nicely. Alfred discovered that car rides and walks were a lot of fun. Other dogs were fun to play with and toys were cool too!

It's no surprise that Alfred is a big favorite with the volunteers that worked tirelessly to help him know love and joy again. Here are just a few of their glowing notes:

“Alfred is so charming with his good looks, endearing personality and 'joie de vivre!' Almost immediately, Alfred rolled onto his back and wanted someone to rub his belly. Although laid back, Alfred does like to play and is quite active. He has excellent leash manners and knows how to sit. Whoever makes Alfred a part of their life is going to hit the jackpot! Alfred is sweet, loving and so smart!”

“Alfred is such a happy go lucky guy. He loves nothing more than playtime outside and uses his time to the fullest. He's a very friendly pup, who always greets me with his tail wagging and lots of licks. He is very well behaved and does great on the leash. Overall, he just seems so happy now, which is so awesome to see.”

Alfred's forever home should have daily playtime, walks and lots and lots of belly rubs! Alfred will need a home with another young active dog. He is quite friendly with fellow RESCUE dog Esme. Adopting them together would be ideal. Alfred is looking forward to starting the next chapter of his life. Please complete an application today. He is looking forward to meeting you!
