Bitzer (australian slang for mongrel dog) is a five year old male aussie/lab mix who weighs about 65 pounds. He is very people-oriented and lives to catch his frisbee. He has lived with cats his whole life and doesn't chase chickens, guinea hens or other small creatures. He has lived his whole life on a 10 acre hobby farm and is used to having someone home during the day. He is house-trained and barks at the door when he wants to go out. He goes in the car but still gets somewhat nervous when traveling (whines a little), however he loves to stick his head out the window. Doesn't generally wear a collar (it's the country) but likes to go on walks. No known health issues except he has seasonal allergies (foot chewing, head shaking) and takes a Prednisone pill from early spring until first frost (they are inexpensive). He has a true aussie personality of being a "velcro dog," ie he follows you EVERYWHERE because that is what he does. I have left him on the porch for short periods of time and when you say "stay" he will just wait for you. He has a good nose and was able to get rid of some "rat issues" that I had when other methods failed (the house is 114 years old with a questionable fieldstone foundation). He is only available for adoption due to a death in the family with a forced relocation from the farm. He is a wonderful boy for the right family. He has been raised in an environment of no yelling, no loud music and no small children. Although he has been alone for 3 years (our other dog went to the rainbow bridge) the vet tells me that he is not an alpha male and would probably do well living with one. However, his "person/people" will always take priority over playing with other dogs. He is not crate trained and has always slept on the sleep number bed with his people and all the cats (at one point there were eight). He has always lived in the country, don't know how he would do in the "burbs." He has no tail naturally (litter from 2 stubbies produced 4 long tails, 2 stubbies and 2 no tails). Do you love him yet? He would make a faithful companion for someone and I really wish I didn't have to leave him behind.
