My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This sweet little girl is a chihuahua/terrier mix who weighs about 12 lb and most likely is not over one year old (as of July 2016). She is a real snuggler who loves to be held, sit in your lap, or lie close to you on the sofa or bed. She will climb into your arms and smother you with kisses, then rest her head on your chest or shoulder. Her mouth sometimes looks like she is smiling. She is a very happy, joyful dog who is full of fun and love.

She’s energetic and playful when she has another small young dog to run around and wrestle with, or a human to throw toys for her. When she runs around in the yard, she looks so cute almost like a little walking horse, holding up her head and tail and throwing her forepaws out in front of her. But she will quiet right down as soon as you pick up and hold her or lie her down next to you. When not napping or being held by you, she'll keep herself busy with a variety of toys and healthy things to chew on (hoof, nylabone, etc.) -- she doesn't pester for constant attention.

She gets along well with other dogs her size. Not so sure about cats – seems to want to chase or play with them, but if held close to one, she gets very calm and demure. She could probably learn to get along with cats just fine, given some training.

Clarissa is heartworm neg, spayed and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $150.

The ideal home for this Real Good Dog will have a secure fenced yard. A solid history of excellent vet care for current or previous pets is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have specific breed experience.

Please visit www.realgoodrescue.com to submit an electronic application if you are interested in adopting this or any other Real Good Dog.

We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.
