ONYX's Story...
ONYX is a 1 1/2 year old black male with cropped and standing ears. He came to rescue after his owner found him after he had chewed off part of his penis. She could not afford the surgery, so he was turned over to a vet hospital, who turned him over to rescue. He also came in cryptorchid (only one descended testical). Onyx has undergone 2 surgeries, and been in the hospital for most of a month while working to recuperate to a point where it is safe for him to go to a foster home. He has also lost 10 pounds, and was about 10-15 pounds underweight when he first came in with the injury. Everyone who meets Onyx loves him. He pulls a bit on lead, but once he calms down he walks nicely. He is very motivated by treats, so training should be easy. He is a goofy boy, though a bit mouthy, and unbelievably gentle. Right now, while in the vet kennel, he's been showing a bit of agitation towards other large dogs as they walk past his run. He has been fine with all small dogs, but is unknown with cats. Onyx loves toys, and gallops like a horse in a corral when you give him a new one. Onyx's surgeries have cost MAGDRL $4000. Onyx came to MAGDRL in August 2008.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

ONYX, a Pearl River Great Dane dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Great Dane for sale in Pearl River, or seeking a Great Dane dog from a breeder in Pearl River.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Pearl River already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Pearl River breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Great Dane breeders who help with Great Dane rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Pearl River paves the way for another one to be saved.
