`Elly Mae`

Hail the queen cat, Elly Mae! Elly Mae''s primary focus and main motivation is FOOD. Her downfall is overeating and getting so big she can''t properly groom herself. She has had a rough go of it over the last couple years, and is looking for an owner who can attend to her `special needs.`

Ellie is a 8-year-old, very sweet, loving, spayed female domestic short hair cat. She first came to the shelter in May of 2013, and as you may imagine, life at the shelter is more sedentary than a home or the great outdoors. Elly gained a few pounds over the 7 months she was here, so we needed to put her on diet food to help maintain her weight. Elly was finally adopted in December of 2013 and we asked the new owner to keep her on diet food so that she could continue losing weight.

Elly was returned to the shelter by her owner in October of 2014 because she was not using her litter box properly. Although her owner loved Elly very much, she had been allowed to gain 5 more pounds (in 10 months) and was never taken to the vet to see if there could be anything medically wrong with her which may cause her to not use the litter box. Once Elly was back at the shelter, our vet staff discovered that Elly had a urinary tract infection. And with the extra weight she had gained, she could no longer clean herself sufficiently after using the litter box. We treated her infection, assisted with her cleaning regimen, put her back on diet food, and placed her back up for adoption.

While back at the shelter, Elly had lost a couple pounds and was adopted for a second time in January of 2015, and the staff couldn''t have been happier! We hoped that this home would be her forever home. Elly was returned a month later in February. She was in her new home for just over a month, and was allowed to gain almost 2 pounds back. Elly cannot clean herself properly at this weight and began eliminating outside of her box, and using her owners carpet to clean her behind.

All of Elly''s many months spent here at the shelter, she has never had a problem using her litter box. It is our opinion that with proper diet and weight management, and an owner who is unafraid of wiping her behind once in a while until she loses enough weight, she will make a great pet for you and your family! Elly deserves to live happily ever after in a ''forever'' home.

Our Adoption Process...

How to Adopt:

Take your time getting to know the animal you wish to adopt. The pet you choose should be your pet for the rest of its life, so spend the time necessary to make the right choice. Our staff is happy to assist you in taking a dog out of the kennels or socializing with a cat in the cat room. We encourage each person in your household to get acquainted with an animal before it becomes a new member of your family. We also suggest you bring your present pets in for an introduction to the new animal to form some ideas about their compatibility. Our shelter is open Monday through Saturday, 11:00am - 5:30pm. In order to complete the adoption process, it is necessary to begin adoptions by 4:30pm.
