Cheyenne's Story...
When it comes to choosing a dog companion, many potential adopters don't realize how great older dogs are. They may sleep more and their hearing and/or eyesight may not be as keen as it used to be, but the gratitude and instant unconditional love you get from an older rescued dog is immeasurable by the clock or the calendar. Cheyenne is a senior citizen, a precious 9-10 year old (we guess her year of birth is 2007); a 12 pound female Shih Tzu, with a darling round face and a beautiful black silky non-shedding coat with white highlights. Despite her robust health, her eyes are a bit clouded and she will require daily eye drops. Cheyenne arrived at the Safehouse on 07/07/2016; she was dropped off at another shelter by her owner who said she just “didn’t want the dog anymore”. Imagine, this little dog’s reward for a lifetime of love and devotion was indifference and abandonment! Cheyenne loves people, treats and being IN CHARGE!! If you have ever had the pleasure of being owned by a Shih Tzu with a personality as out of this world as Cheyenne’s, then you know what fun this darling pet will bring to your home. Totally housetrained, well mannered, quiet and calm; a perfect companion, Cheyenne enjoys going for walks, sleeping in your bed and spending every minute with you. Accustomed to living with a family she arrives with some basic training; she knows what “no” means and when you call her . . . . SHE COMES!! Keep in mind, Cheyenne is not a couch potato lap dog, she will need a home with daily walks but she loves nap time tool!! If you are looking for an instant companion, who can settle right in, leave you time for yourself and let you get a good night’s sleep, come meet Cheyenne. All she wants is a second chance at a loving home. Cheyenne is spayed, microchipped, current on all vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and she has had a complete physical and dental. Her adoption fee is $200. Please note: Cheyenne is eligible for our Senior-to-Senior discount.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Cheyenne, a Homer Glen Shih Tzu dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shih Tzu for sale in Homer Glen, or seeking a Shih Tzu dog from a breeder in Homer Glen.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Homer Glen already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Homer Glen breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shih Tzu breeders who help with Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Homer Glen paves the way for another one to be saved.
