Sweet and gentle Mabel was found in front of the Roosevelt Houses in BedStuy in a pile of trash one late May afternoon. At the time, she was filthy and hugely pregnant, but was immediately grateful to her rescuer for getting her out of there—a place where she was simply trying to survive another day.
Less than 48 hours after her rescuer took her in, Mabel went into labor. Tragically, none of her three babies survived.
Since then, Mabel has been fostered with three other rescue cats, and after her difficult life, is learning to trust both humans and other felines. We don’t blame her! She has plenty of bad experiences to forget, but that hasn’t stopped her from being sweet and gentle, if a little shy. She enjoys having her own space, being safe indoors, and is beginning to understand that her life has truly taken a lasting turn for the better. Plus, she’s discovered she loves pets, and she will purr so loudly, it just about breaks your heart that such a great girl was in such dire need of human kindness and affection.
Mabel is a young cat, spayed, FeLV/FIV negative, and up to date with vaccines. If you’d like to meet this sweet Tortie lady, contact Tara Green at firstname.lastname@example.org!
