My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them homeless in the streets or in a high-kill shelter! Ellie, at only 16 weeks old and 9 lbs (is estimated to be full grown at about 15 - 18 lbs), was facing the end of her life before it ever began. Farfel's Texas rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this puppy...they rescued Ellie just in time to save her life.

This sweet and engaging puppy is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life.

Ellie is also incredibly beautiful. She has the most striking baby-blue eyes and a coat with the most gorgeous streaks of gold and black running through it. Her non-shedding (or very lightly shedding) coat is getting more beautiful by the day. Ellie will require a commitment to periodic baths/brushing to keep her lovely coat shining and matt-free.

Ellie is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's so smart and very engaging...so typical of a Terrier mix. She's also bright and so loving...clearly having no memory of her scary start. Since Ellie is just a baby, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome companion. She will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through puppy socialization class followed by positive reinforcement group obedience classes. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the world with appropriate behavior.

We're open to Ellie finding her forever home with a very active retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and truly enjoy a young puppy. Ellie is great with children as well but we would prefer to place her in a family with older, dog-crazy kids that can participate in a gentle yet consistent training regimen.

Ellie will be up to date on her vetting. We're hoping that she will be spayed when she arrives from Texas, however a very young puppy like Ellie is often deemed too young to spay. If this is the case, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Ellie to be fixed at our vet in Denver to be in line with our commitment to zero population growth.

Ellie will be arriving on transport in Denver in late July. If interested in this beautiful and exceptionally loving and fun companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
