My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sierra ~12-yr-old spayed female black Lab 65 lbs

“Why would my owner drop me off at the shelter and instruct them to euthanize me?” Thank God for the shelter vet and staff who said “Not so fast! We have some other plans for you”. Fast forward to today… and Sierra has been rescued and placed into a Lab Rescue foster home where she is delighting everyone she encounters. Her tail wags incessantly. She will fetch balls till the cows come home. This is one happy, happy dog… hoping to land in a fabulous new forever home.

What Sierra’s Foster says: Sierra walks well on leash, really enjoys walks around the neighborhood and at the dog park, a chance to sniff everything. She gets along well with other dogs, greets them appropriately, but people are her focus. Friendly with all people, large and small. Not sure about cats. She wags her tail whenever she catches your eye, looking up expectantly for a pat or a treat, and loves to explore. Knows "down" and "sit" but those are a bit hard for her with her arthritic back legs. Also knows stay, and waits patiently for her meals, does the cutest happy dance when the bowl comes her way. Very gentle mouth, loves treats. She is so engaged in the world, loves visitors, and totally charms everyone she meets. Her arthritis doesn't diminish her passion for gentle ball-playing - she brings her ball to me at least 10 times during the day. If I put it away, she looks for it each place in the yard and house where it has been. Surrendering owners said she was an outside dog, but she is more comfortable inside, it seems. Totally housebroken. Goes outside a couple of times a day to explore the yard, and loves to lay under the apple tree. Not afraid of noises on the street or household noises, like the vacuum cleaner or washing machine. She is a total sweetie.

What Sierra’s Rescue Rep says: Sierra is a delightful gal who has a lot to give to her new adopters. She is fine with other dogs and all people. She is microchipped, current on shots, heartworm negative. Sierra's health has not been well taken care of in the past, but Lab Rescue's vet has done a complete senior screen, is treating her for chronic ear infections, and put her on meds for arthritis. Her skin is recovering well from flea dermatitis. She has several skin tags that we will be getting removed, along with getting her a dental in the near future. Sierra is currently located in Berkeley.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
