My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Merrie: 8 yr old female, brown tabby and white, Exotic Shorthair Persian / Scottish Fold mix

Who would take this darling girl to a shelter? It is hard to understand these things but we are so pleased to have her. She is a darling lovebug who loves to sit on your lap. What a great companion for a late night movie.

For genetic reasons that have to do especially with arthritis, Scottish Folds must not be bred to other Scottish Folds. Most frequently, Folds are bred to British Shorthairs, but I have fostered a number of Folds bred to other breeds. They are all adorable. In this case, an Exotic Shorthair Persian was the other breed. Exotics or “Zots” as they are known are the lazy man’s Persian having all the wonderful Persian personality characteristics without the huge, long-haired coat.

So here is Merrie. You can see she has the little flat face of a Persian with the little folded ears of a Scottish Fold. Some Folds have straight ears. Some have slightly folded ears -- about half way. And some, like Merrie, have the most desirable type of ears which are called “Airplane Fold” where the ears go out to the side like the wings of a plane. She is certainly a cutie. And look at her amazing whiskers!

As her photos show, Merrie is a very gentle, loving girl. She is a bit vulnerable . “Love me and keep me safe,” she says. A little shy at first, she warms up quickly and wants to be petted and treasured. I think she would be fine with other gentle kitties and probably other cat-friendly, smaller dogs. She needs a safe, secure, stable home where she can relax and be her happy self. Someone will be so lucky to have her company.

She eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.

Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
