Brooklyn's Story...
Brooklyn is a lovely, somewhat shy, 2 year old girl. She and her B group friends belonged to a woman who unfortunately had dementia, and didn't manage to care for the cats very well; Brooklyn is one of the most social of the group, and she will become your devotee if you tempt her with kitty treats!

Due to their shy nature, the kitties in this room don't get as much attention from visitors as the more outgoing cats. Brooklyn will be a wonderful companion for anyone with the patience to let her love them at her own pace. Brooklyn would do fine as an only cat, or would love to go home with one of her friends, like Brier (the pointy-faced girl in the video with her), or one of the seriously camera shy kitties Benton, Bellevue, and Beaux. While all these cats were used to going in and out of their former home (through a window that was left open), if you want your new friend(s) to stick around, you will want to keep them strictly inside for at least a couple of months, until they are totally comfortable with you and their new home environment.

These cats are perfect examples of what rescuing a pet really means; if you can open your home and heart to a pair or threesome, we'd love to see Brooklyn go with one or two of the most shy in the group. The second mouth to feed won't be much trouble at all... while Brooklyn is likely to be sitting on your bed and sharing purrs with you quickly, the "emergency backup cat" (or two) will mostly keep to themselves for quite a while... they all have great litterbox habits and are quiet and easy care kitties. We don't recommend them for homes with toddlers or particularly noisy, boisterous children, but older children that can understand and empathize with a shy kitty should do just fine with them. Of the five, Brooklyn and Brier are pretty close to normal cats already, thanks to the efforts of our wonderful volunteers! The other three will benefit from being placed with either of the less shy gals, to give them a brave leader cat to emulate.

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Brooklyn is suggested minimum $20 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts. Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Brooklyn, a Republic Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Republic, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Republic.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Republic already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Republic breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Republic paves the way for another one to be saved.
