Meet Roscoe, that's me! I am an older dog with a young spirit. I have been adopted and returned to the shelter many times in my life, mostly due to "moving." I have lots of energy still and I love a great game of fetch. I am an expert cuddler and I know kids make the best snuggle partners of all! I am very dominant with other dogs and may due well with a submissive female, but I don't do well with small dogs or other small pets. I am one of the favorites of volunteers at the SPCA! If I seem like a good match for you, come and visit with me today!

Exercise: Moderate, I wear out easily with a little activity.
Large dogs: I do not do well with dominant males. I could possibly do well with submissive females.
Small dogs: I prefer to be around someone my own size.
Children: I do best with children who understand my body language and my strength.
Cats/Other small animals: I will not do well with smaller animals as I seem to have a drive to chase them.

About SPCA of Northern Nevada

About Our Shelter...

The mission of the SPCANN is to be an innovative regional leader in responsible treatment of homeless cats and dogs, primarily through their rescue and placement in forever loving homes, and by promoting spaying and neutering to control pet overpopulation. We accomplish our mission with dedication to our core values and a lifetime commitment to our animals.

We are Reno's first no-kill animal shelter, founded in 1998. Each year our shelter develops more progressive programs such as our Rural Rescue Program where we aggressively rescue animals from rural animal control agencies and support their joint efforts to move animals out of their facilities and into ours to avoid euthanasia. We also have expanded our reach into schools with our Humane Initiative Program where we teach and show compassion to animals. We have more programs and many projects on the horizon - visit our website to see more!!!

Come Meet Our Pets...

We have events througout the year to highlight our adoptable animals. One favorite event each year is our local public swimming pool closes to the public in the fall and the very last day the pool is open only to dogs in the community. Shelter dogs play, splash and mingle with public dogs in two pools and cool off for the final hot days of the summer.

We post our events on our website and Facebook and through other various media outlets.

Our Adoption Process...

The SPCA of Northern Nevada has an adoption process that involves a fee, adoption application, Meet and Greets with prospective humans and other companion dogs in the same household and children. We do have specific requirements for an adoption. We strive to really ensure a great match!
