My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet our very special LAMBEAU! This guy is an 8 month old male German Shepherd mix puppy. If you remember back a few months ago, SPR got a frantic call from the local county shelter that this puppy was surrendered at 10 weeks and in a great deal of pain. His legs were swollen and he cried in pain whenever he was touched or moved. SPR raced to pick him up and get him the medical care he needed and at a minimum ease the pain of this puppy. The diagnosis was Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD), which is a bone disease that occurs in fast-growing large and giant breed dogs. There is no surgical intervention. SPR was told that through medications and supportive care he would hopefully get through it, though a percentage of dogs have such pain that they do not live through the early stages. Lambeau was placed in a medical foster home that did all the care he required and then some! His last x-rays indicated he is ready to start looking for his forever home. He will be a Foster-to-Adopt case until he is old enough to complete his neuter. He may need ongoing medications throughout his life for periods of pain, but Lambeau is now able to walk and play. He has other puppies and older dogs in his foster home and even a cat! He does all the normal “puppy” stuff - loves to play fetch. He will never be a dog that will be a partner for a runner, avid hiker, or agility competitor. His activity level is medium. We prefer he is the only dog in the home but homes with other dogs would be considered as long as Lambeau’s medical care would not be compromised (i.e. high energy or rough play dogs). Lambeau may have special needs, but his fight and zest for life is infectious! If you think you have the right home for a special boy and can give him the home he deserves and fought for, fill out our adoption application to get the process started!
