My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lucy! Lucy is a beautiful 1.5 year old, 25lb sato who looks like a tiny border collie. She was a stray for her first five months, and then was well taken care of by her adoptive family for almost a year. Unfortunately, they were unable to keep her.

Due to her sato background, Lucy is shy and easily startled. She will need a quiet home as well as active counterconditioning and desensitization work to help her learn to relax. This mainly involves feeding her yummy treats and being aware of her body language. :-) It will need to be an ongoing project. She has a lot going for her: she bounces back quickly, and she's an intensely curious dog. She will really blossom in the right home.

Here is her wish list for her new home:

* quiet neighborhood
* backyard with a physical fence
* low-key, without a lot of guests coming and going
* older, quiet kids are fine, as long as they're not bringing their friends over a lot
* she will enjoy the company of one calm older dog

And for her new owner:

* patient and willing to let her progress at her own pace
* some experience of timid dogs, or willingness to learn :-)
* interest in actively teaching her many things-- Lucy would be awesome at the sport of nosework
* willingness to work with a behaviorist and vet if necessary
* you must live close enough to Boston MA to come meet her

Lucy is housebroken and crate trained, up to date on her shots, and microchipped. She is being fostered in Medford, MA and her fee is $375.

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
