Zoey is just a character! Zoey was adopted from the shelter about two years ago from a wonderful family. Unfortunately, their family situation changed out of their control, and they had to return our girl. She is a silly older lady who is still a puppy at heart! If you would like a silly, sassy girl, this is your dog! She chats your ear off with her mumbling and she always has to have the last word! Although she loves to go out and run around in our play yard, she also loves belly rubs and just being cozy in her bed. Zoey would like a home with someone who understands her true colors and will give this girl all the loving she wants!

Zoey was featured in an article when she was first at the shelter, years ago. She got the name 'Zoey' after she was adopted, in the article her name is Harriet.

About Animal Welfare Society, Inc.

About Our Shelter...

Animal Welfare Society, Inc. is an independent, non-profit, non-destroy organization founded in 1965.

Our Mission is to aid and find loving, permanent homes for abandoned, stray, and abused cats and dogs in New Milford, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Roxbury, and Washington, Connecticut.

Each year hundreds of dogs and cats find refuge at our shelter located at 8 Dodd Road in New Milford, Connecticut. Abandoned dogs are rescued from the Regional Canine Facility in New Milford after the mandatory 7-day waiting period. AWS also makes periodic trips to New York City's overpopulated dog pounds and brings their animals to our shelter for placement. Our cats are found abandoned in the areas we serve.

From the moment these animals enter the shelter, they are no longer unwanted. Each is a special pet waiting for a caring, responsible, permanent home.
