It has taken nearly 4 months, but Blitz is finally medically cleared for foster or adoption! Blitz came to WRS from a west Tennessee shelter and was heartworm positive. He made it through treatment like a trooper and we're so happy this boy can now run and play! Blitz is handsome, well mannered, extremely affectionate, and an absolute joy to be around. Blitz is approximately 3-5 years old.He will make an incredible companion for a lucky person or family! If interested in Blitz, please submit an application at www.weimrescue.com.

Handsome Blitz is in the home stretch of his heartworm treatment. This sweet, sweet boy has been on exercise restrictions since he came to WRS in late June because he had a significant case of heartworms. He has been a trooper every day and has two weeks to go before he can be medically released for a foster or forever home. He has lost some weight due to the stress of treatment, but we know he will quickly regain that once he can run and play like a normal pup. As you can see in the video on our Facebook page, Blitz is a calm, gentle, extremely well mannered boy. If interested in fostering or adopting Blitz once he's medically cleared, please submit an application at www.weimrescue.com.

Sweet Blitz is checking with us today! Blitz was rescued from a west Tennessee shelter three months ago and he's been undergoing heartworm treatment since then. He has about 2.5 weeks to go before he gets medical clearance to be adopted or fostered. It's been a long road for him, but Blitz has handled treatment well and is an AMAZING boy! EVERYONE who meets him adores him! Blitz has wonderful manners, is very sweet and affectionate, and is super smart. If you'd like to open your heart and home to Blitz once he completes heartworm treatment, please submit an application at www.weimrescue.com.

We have a disappointing update on sweet, handsome Blitz. Blitz came to WRS in July after being pulled from a Tennessee shelter. While at the shelter, Blitz was tested for heartworms and his results came back negative. It has always been WRS's policy to have our own vets test every new intake for heartworms, just to be safe. In this case, our safety measures quite possibly saved Blitz's life. It turns out that Blitz is not only heartworm positive, but that he has a heavy case of worms. We have already started Blitz on the appropriate medications and developed a treatment plan for him. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Blitz is a WONDERFUL dog; he's so sweet and well mannered and an absolute joy to be around.

Handsome Blitz was rescued from a Tennessee shelter almost two weeks ago and he is enjoying his freedom! Blitz did come down with kennel cough, a very common virus often found in animal shelters, but he's made a full recovery and is fine. Blitz has been an absolute gentleman to everyone he has met so far. He has gained a few pounds since his rescue and needs to gain a few more, but he appears to be in otherwise good health. Blitz is about 4-5 years old and it appears that he hasn't had too much formal training, but he is a quick learner who is very food motivated. If interested in fostering or adopting Blitz, please submit an application at www.weimrescue.com.

Please welcome BLITZ to WRS! Blitz is a 4-5 yo blue male who was rescued from a Tennessee animal control, where he had been brought in as a stray and never reclaimed. Blitz is underweight but appears to be in reasonably good health. We were relieved to find out that he tested negative for heartworms. Blitz walks pretty well on a leash (as long as he doesn't see any squirrels!) and rode very well in the car on his freedom ride out of the shelter. We're going to give this sweet boy a few days to relax and decompress from his time at the shelter; it was a very stressful situation for him. We'll be sure to post more about Blitz in the coming days. If interested in possibly fostering or adopting Blitz, please submit an application at www.weimrescue.com.

About Weimaraner Rescue of the South

About Our Rescue Group...

Weimaraner Rescue of the South (WRS) is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to saving Weimaraners in need in Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia and placing them into loving forever homes. We have been saving Weimaraners throughout our footprint for more than 10 years.

Our priority is to rescue Weimaraners who find themselves in animal controls and high-kill shelters in Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Tennessee, Louisiana, and Georgia. All Weimaraners in our care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any medical issues they might have including but not limited to heartworm disease, orthopedic concerns, and vision issues. Our efforts are funded by adoption fees and donations from "Weim-loving" people like you.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We are not a shelter, therefore, we are not in one central location. We place our dogs in loving foster homes throughout the deep South so we can learn about each one enabling us to adopt them to their perfect family. Alabama hosts the majority of our rescues although we do have foster homes throughout our Southern footprint. Our dogs are not available for visitors unless an adoption application has been approved for them specifically.

Our Adoption Process...

Are you ready to adopt? Make sure you do your homework on this breed before taking this step as this is not the breed for the average household and you must be committed to their needs as well as your own. Still want to add a Weimaraner to your family? Great! Fill out a WRS Adoption Application to begin the adoption process with us. You will be contacted by one of our volunteers to begin the approval process which includes a veterinary background check, phone interview, and home visit.

ADOPTION FEES: EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1, 2016 OUR ADOPTION FEE FOR PUPPIES 6 MONTHS AND YOUNGER IS $375 WITH A $100 REFUNDABLE SPAY/NEUTER CONTRACT, $300 FOR ADULT WEIMARANERS, SENIORS AND MIXED BREEDS $225. This includes microchip, spay/neuter, and Heartworm prevention. All dogs have been fully vetted and treated for any medical issues of which we are aware.
