This is Maple, or Maple Syrup as the kids have been calling her. She is approximately 8 years old, but still gets around perfectly fine and doesn't seem to know she's 8. She was abandoned at a shelter prior to the rescue finding her, so not much is known of her past. She's a climber and likes to climb on things if she is allowed, such as picnic tables at the parks, or into the back of the pickup truck (while it's parked of course.) But she is very polite and knows to get permission first.
She absolutely loves car rides and will jump into any seat as soon as the door flies open. She didn't seem to know her name or any commands too well when we got her. She is getting pretty good with "Sit" and "Stay". She will come to her name, or whistling or clapping once she is comfortable with someone. She never barks or growls or seems defensive. She is very relaxed and has a go with the flow personality. She is great with kids of all ages, and shows no aggression towards her food or toys. She does like hard rubber toys she can chew on. She has had no accidents inside the house, and wakes me up if she needs to go out to go potty. She is still getting used to walking on a leash, and can pull small children, but she is fine with an adult holding her.
I haven't had her around any cats yet, but I don't see it being an issue. She lives with a small tortoise that wanders around the house and other than just sniffing him once in awhile, she ignores him. He even eats her left over food. Maple would be great for a family looking for a calm dog who just wants some loving, and will take her on car rides and walks. Maple MUST be an only dog though, because once bonded to her people, she does not want to share them.
Maple is fostered in Newport News VA
