From the Foster:
Akoya is a sweet black lab mix girl. She was found with a broken hip (presumably hit by a car), pregnant and hungry. The odds for dogs in this situation are sadly not good - for the mama, or the babies. Luckily for her, she was rescued and was able to come to Secondhand Hounds to safely deliver and raise her babies. Now that her hip has healed and her puppies have all found good homes, she is ready to be her own girl and get the attention she deserves.
Akoya loves other dogs, and enjoys running around with other dogs at the dog park. She takes a minute to warm up to new people but she has made leaps and bounds in her training since moving into her foster home. She is SUPER sweet and will do best with a family that is willing to put in some time training at home with rewards and encouragement and love.
She is kennel trained and never begs when you are eating. We are still working on the concept of fetch though. She knows how to find the ball but bringing it back consistently is still a work in progress.
This baby girl has all the makings of a great family pet; she just needs a family to call her own.
All dogs are in individual foster homes throughout the Twin Cities.
If you would like to meet/adopt this animal or anyone else, then please fill out an adoption application at http://secondhandhounds.org/
adoption-information/and the foster(s) will be in touch! Keep in mind that there may be multiple applicants applying for the same animal(s). You only need to complete 1 application for multiple animals that you're interested in.
Note - We change an animal's listing to say "PENDING ADOPTION" when they already had a meet and greet with a family who plans to adopt that animal. We put "NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS" on a listing when an animal has multiple applications in and the foster has asked to stop accepting any more while they review the applications they've already received.
