Hi, I’m Jack! I’m one of the shelter’s longest residents—I’ve been here for over a year! No one knows why, though: I’m a sweet-natured seven year-old male who enjoys lazing around in the sun and peering regally at everyone from my favorite perch (I hear I resemble the Lion King, but I don’t want to brag.) I get along with everyone: cats, dogs, people of all ages. I’m not as young as I used to be, so I’m on a special diet. Mostly I spend my days dreaming of finding my fur-ever home. Could it be yours?

About Franklin County Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

The Franklin County Animal Shelter is a non-profit organization. Since 1974, their purpose has been to provide temporary care and shelter to stray, homeless, and abandoned animals. The shelter provides medical treatment including vaccinations and sterilization to all animals prior to adoption. FCAS serves the community as an adoption facility where loving families and pets needing homes come together. The shelter strives to educate the public in the proper care of pets including increasing public awareness of the companion animal overpopulation issue.

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption process is easy! Simply fill out an adoption application at the shelter or online at, then once you're approved you can adopt!

We do our best to prepare the dogs and cats for adoption by providing the following services:

-All animals are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.
-All dogs have received bordetella, distemper, rabies* vaccines, monthly flea treatment and nail trims.
-All cats have received distemper, rabies* vaccines.
-Each adoption comes with 30 days of free health insurance. -Most local veterinarians offer a complimentary initial exam of a shelter pet.

Pricing varies depending on type, size, and age of the animal, as well as the time of year because we offer monthly cat specials!

Occasionally we import dogs from other parts of the country. We only do this if there are no adoptable dogs available to us locally that can meet the request we have from area folks. These dogs typically come from high kill shelters. We charge an additional $25 for these dogs because we have additional costs associated with acquiring them.
