My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Coco and I’m a 63 lb, 4 year old girl. I have a calm personality and just love to hang out with my humans and, of course, if petting is involved, I’m all in. I’m good in a crate, but also perfectly trustworthy in the house when you’re not home. I’ve been a bit skittish in the past, but I’m getting over that now that I’m healthy and my eyesight is good again. You see, I have canine diabetes. Yes, dogs get diabetes! Since I’ve been with DLRR and my amazing foster mom, my diabetes is completely under control as long as I stick to a strict diet and have my insulin shots twice a day. You’d also need to check my blood sugar levels twice a day to make sure I’m within range so nothing bad happens. Other than that, you’d never know I had an issue as I’m a totally loving, normal Lab! Initially my diabetes wasn’t controlled by my former owner so I had developed cataracts. The great people at DLRR and their fabulous donors pulled together money for me to have eye surgery, so I can see again! It’s amazing!
One eye has a detached retina so that can’t be fixed, but let me tell you, one eye makes all the difference! No wonder I’m getting my confidence back! I love kids and other dogs too, housebroken and just the perfect companion. My new owner will need to be committed to taking great care of me like my foster mom has and it comes with a bit of expense. The insulin is about $25 a month and you’ll need to have test strips and such for the little beepy machine which DLRR will give to you. I’m a pro at taking my shot, so trust me it’s easy once you know how. I look forward to my shot actually because I know I get to eat! If you think I’m your gal, give my foster mom a call. I’m looking forward to seeing if we are a match made in Heaven! Oh, and I’m famous ... I’m a Sugar Baby!
