Important Note

Bandit is best friends with Smokey. Please adopt both of them so they can stay together!
Smokey and Bandit are a mother-daughter pair who started life as classroom pets. One of the class mothers took them home, recognizing the classroom was not where they belonged. She spent a lot of time taming them, spoiling them and showing them how wonderful life can be...but her tiny NYC apartment was not the right place to keep these energetic girls! Smokey and Bandit are very smart, very happy chins full of energy like most young chinchillas. They are NOT good for kids, but will be perfect for an adult with or without chin experience.

About Chin Friends Chinchilla Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Chin Friends Chinchilla Rescue was started because the exotic pet trade in our country is busier than ever before. With the availability of these animals, many people impulse-purchase them, not realizing the commitment they are making. It gets overwhelming for some, and others didn’t quite realize the financial commitment or time commitment. Some people just lose interest, or their lifestyle changes and the pet does not fit in anymore. There are not many resources for people with exotic pets, and we aim to provide that for chinchilla owners.

We also realize great pet owners are made- not born that way, and each one of our adopters will have access to help, suggestions and any support they may need in the future.

Come Meet Our Pets...

All of our chinchillas are in private foster home, so we do not allow the general public to see the chinchillas without first filling out the adoption application. Once an adopter is approved, we will be happy to set up a private meeting so you can meet any chinchillas you are interested in adopting.

Our Adoption Process...

Unlike some rescues, we do not require a home inspection. We do require that you are prepared to agree to some basic expectations, including providing a proper cage, veterinary care from an exotic specialist, air conditioning, and a clean, quiet, smoke-free environment.

There is an adoption application available for download on our web site, and there is a $100 adoption fee per chinchilla. After filling out an application, one of our volunteers will speak with you for more information.
