My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sam is the most handsome pocket-sized border collie you will ever see! His fur is luxurious and he has just a tiny sprinkling of freckles on his nose. He's still very frightened of most things, though. If you take it slowly and let him approach you, he'll quickly stay by your side so you'll pet him. We're working on getting him used to the car, going up and down stairs and meeting other dogs. In general, things, like sudden movements and noises, scare him so it will take some time before he is comfortable with the world. He loves to run in the yard and explore everything but is reluctant to venture out on a walk yet. He's doing really well with his house training. He's also learning commands, and quickly caught on to "sit" and "down." Stay tuned as we see Sam continue to open up.

Sam has been here for a week and he's slowly becoming more comfortable in a home. He's very frightened of everything right now, including other dogs and people. If you speak to him gently, he will eventually approach you if you hold out a tasty treat. Then he'll let you pet him, which he loves and he'll ask for more by putting a paw on your hand. Otherwise, he's content to stay in what he has selected as his corner of the living room, gently playing with a toy, napping or peering out of the window. He loves to go outside and explore the yard, but does not want to venture too far, as noises scare him. He'll sit under a shady bush and watch from there, or sniff the grass intently. We're working on house training this little boy, as it's clear he does not know what to do. He's very sweet, but when he doesn't want to go somewhere he stubbornly plants his feet and refuses to budge. Stay tuned for more about Sam as we coax him out of his shell.
