Dixie's Story...
Hi, I'm Dixie and I am 11 pounds of mostly Dachshund. Some good people in my old city rescued me from a hoarding situation, and I was really thankful since I had puppies that were only a few days old. I had to live with them at animal control until they were old enough to go to rescue. Luckily, me and two of my girls came to Safely Home Canine Rescue! Now I am in a foster home waiting to find my new family!

I am a little shy at first, but I will cuddle with you for long periods of time. I am not fond of children, they make me nervous so I can only go to a home with teenager and older, or better yet, no children. I like other dogs and cats a lot, even though I don't play much, I don't mind them at all and like being around them.

If you are willing to show me love, I will be a loyal companion to you. A lot of people say I am really cute, so please read below to find out how you can meet and possibly adopt me!

Please contact us at or call toll-free 855.854.DOGS (3647).

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Dixie, a Plainfield Dachshund dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund for sale in Plainfield, or seeking a Dachshund dog from a breeder in Plainfield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Plainfield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Plainfield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund breeders who help with Dachshund rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Plainfield paves the way for another one to be saved.
