How is it possible that Ava has not been adopted yet?? She is a remarkable girl. She is fully trained, a great loving girl, great with other dogs of all sizes (even teeny tiny ones, great with kids, fun loving, snuggly - she is the whole package! At only 35 lbs, she is the perfect size for many different living situations and would make a great family member for many families!! After being dumped at the shelter while in labor, losing nearly all 9 puppies to distemper/parvo (after being injected with a live virus while in labor), she so deserves her own loving family. I guarantee you will fall in love with her. Her adorable little up turned nose and underbite show off a bit of boxer, but we see some hound and a whole lot of perfectly adorable "mutt". At just over a year, she is the perfect age - not a wild pup, alreayd crate and house trained and knows basic commands. She sounds better than most kids! Am I right? ;) Apply for Ava NOW!! You know you want to.

9/14/16 Ava is such a wonderful sweet love bug. She is more than ready to go and love on a family of her own. She adores other dogs and is always ready to play. She loves her humans too and enjoys snuggles on the couch and being close. She has the most adorable upturned nose and tiny underbite. We think she might be a boxer/beagle mix. Whatever, this petite girl is ....is a whole lot of cuteness!!

Ava is getting ready for her spay and will be ready for her own family soon. She deserves a loving home that will spoil her for once. She loves other dogs and enjoys a lot of doggy playtime so another pet would be great! This little hound mix is the perfect size, has a sweet temperment and will make any family a wonderful new furmember!

Sadly, five of Ava's puppies have passed away. We believe that she was given a vaccination while she was in labor that infected her puppies. Ava had to be weaned from her babies and is ready to find her forever home!

7/24/16
Ava was surrendered to the shelter while in labor !! 30 minutes later, she gave birth to 9 beautiful babies! She is being a great mom and taking good care of her pups. She will be available in 7 weeks after fully weaning her babies!

More info and photos to come!

About Old North Canine Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Old North Canine Rescue (ONCR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all volunteer organization comprised of people who believe the world is simply a better place with dogs in it! Serving Alamance and other surrounding counties, we are dedicated to reducing the number of dogs in county shelters by providing the foster and adoption services of shelter pets and networking shelter dogs. We are dedicated to reducing the number of owner surrenders to the shelter through our Pet Helpline program, education about heartworm disease and prevention, referrals to community resources, and behavioral training and assistance for owners who are considering surrendering their pet, and matching people and pets through our Canine Connection program.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not have a shelter or office location. Old North Canine Rescue is a network of volunteers and all dogs live in homes with foster families. Approved adopters can meet dogs at their own home during a home visit. All others interested in meeting our dogs can find them at the following monthly adoption events:

The first Sunday of each month, we are at Pet Supermarket in Burlington, NC from 11-3

Our Adoption Process...

If you are interested in adoption, please fill out an application online, or email us at adopt@oldnorthcanine.com for more information! If you are looking for another dog you don’t see listed, please check out our Canine Connection program – which will match homeless dogs with adopters! All dogs are fully vetted (spay/neuter, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested, on heartworm and flea/tick preventative and microchipped). Our dogs all live in foster homes after being pulled from shelters or surrendered to our organization. Dogs over 6 months of age are $150 and puppies are $175.

The adoption process for ONCR dogs is as follows:

*your application is received and reviewed
your references checked
*a home visit is conducted to meet the family and see where the dog will be living
*meet & greet with the dog (this can be done at same time as home visit)
*all adoptions begin with a two week trial (the check for adoption fee not cashed until trial period is over)
adoption finalized!
*Happy Tails!

**Please note: We often receive several applications for each dog we have. This is especially true for puppies. Because we are an all volunteer group, not every application will be able to receive a home visit. If the application doesn’t indicate the family would be a good fit for that particular dog or puppy, one of our adoption coordinators will contact you to discuss other dogs that may be a better match. There are often applications from locations that we simply don’t have the time or resources to be able to conduct a home visit, especially quickly. If at all possible, we will do our very best. We try to have volunteers in areas within 2 hours of Burlington and Alamance County. With also work with other rescues that will sometimes do home visits for us. Thank you for your understanding.
