How about sending Cassidy some pawsitive thoughts of support? This gorgeous girl was rescued from a Louisiana shelter in late July, just a few weeks before that shelter would be devastated from the floods that ravaged the Baton Rouge area. Cassidy was very underweight, her coat was in terrible shape, and she was heartworm positive. Cassidy has spent the last 2.5 months in an amazing foster home where she's gained weight, her coat looks amazing and she's receiving the second part of her heartworm treatment today. So far, Cassidy has done amazing with her treatment and we know she's going to do the same with this second round of care!

Please send Cassidy pawsitive thoughts and support! This beautiful girl is having the first part of her heartworm treatment today. Cassidy has been doing amazingly well in her foster home, gaining weight, having fun, and enjoying all the comforts of living inside in a loving home. Heartworm treatment is very grueling on dogs and we collectively hold our breaths until a dog has completed treatment. Of course, if Cassidy's previous owner had been responsible and kept her on heartworm preventative, this would not be an issue. If all goes well, Cassidy should be ready for her forever home in two months.

Please welcome Cassidy to WRS! Yet another unclaimed, heartworm positive weimaraner rescued from Louisiana, Cassidy is a young adult female, probably about 3 years old. From her poor body condition, bleached out coat, and heartworm status, it's apparent that Cassidy was neglected and lived outside. If you aren't going to take proper care of your dog, don't get one; these dogs deserve better. Cassidy is the 14th heartworm positive weim WRS has rescued this year. Cassidy was very good during her freedom ride and will now be getting the medical attention she needs and deserves. We'll post more information about Cassidy in the coming weeks.

About Weimaraner Rescue of the South

About Our Rescue Group...

Weimaraner Rescue of the South (WRS) is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to saving Weimaraners in need in Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia and placing them into loving forever homes. We have been saving Weimaraners throughout our footprint for more than 10 years.

Our priority is to rescue Weimaraners who find themselves in animal controls and high-kill shelters in Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Tennessee, Louisiana, and Georgia. All Weimaraners in our care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any medical issues they might have including but not limited to heartworm disease, orthopedic concerns, and vision issues. Our efforts are funded by adoption fees and donations from "Weim-loving" people like you.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We are not a shelter, therefore, we are not in one central location. We place our dogs in loving foster homes throughout the deep South so we can learn about each one enabling us to adopt them to their perfect family. Alabama hosts the majority of our rescues although we do have foster homes throughout our Southern footprint. Our dogs are not available for visitors unless an adoption application has been approved for them specifically.

Our Adoption Process...

Are you ready to adopt? Make sure you do your homework on this breed before taking this step as this is not the breed for the average household and you must be committed to their needs as well as your own. Still want to add a Weimaraner to your family? Great! Fill out a WRS Adoption Application to begin the adoption process with us. You will be contacted by one of our volunteers to begin the approval process which includes a veterinary background check, phone interview, and home visit.

ADOPTION FEES: EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1, 2016 OUR ADOPTION FEE FOR PUPPIES 6 MONTHS AND YOUNGER IS $375 WITH A $100 REFUNDABLE SPAY/NEUTER CONTRACT, $300 FOR ADULT WEIMARANERS, SENIORS AND MIXED BREEDS $225. This includes microchip, spay/neuter, and Heartworm prevention. All dogs have been fully vetted and treated for any medical issues of which we are aware.
