My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Checkers is a 2.5 year-old border collie mix filled with energy and love. She has been a loving companion to my 88-year old father for the last year and a half, but now we are looking for a good home for her as my father is very ill and in hospice care. I am trying to fulfil his dying wish to place Checkers in a safe and secure environment which will lead to her placement in a loving home.

Checkers is an extremely intelligent and active dog. She is affectionate, loyal, and loves to play. She loves to run, and play games with a ball or a throw rope toy. She is very inquisitive, keeps a close eye on everything that’s going on in her domain, and would make a wonderful watch dog. She enjoys going for a walk, and is leash trained. She also enjoys a refreshing dip in the pool, and loves sun bathing. Checkers would make a great companion for athletic activities.

Checkers is fully up-to-date on all of her vaccinations including her rabies and current medical care, and was already spayed when my father adopted her from the shelter. She is potty-trained, and will respond to basic commands such as Sit, Stay, Laydown and Shake. She hasn’t really been around cats, but she did get along with my father’s older dog very well (until she passed away late last year). She is loyal and affectionate, and will crawl into your bed at night, if you let her.

Checkers would be a great dog for a family that can give her the exercise and attention that she needs. With some love and affection, she will be your dedicated friend for the rest of her life.

We greatly appreciate any help we may receive in helping us fulfil our promise to my dad, to provide a loving home for Checkers. Please contact Leah Pruner-Dellinger, at dellinger@yahoo.com or (310-365-6626) if you have any questions or would like to meet Checkers.
