Facts about Dusty

  • Breed: Italian Greyhound
  • Color: Red/Golden/Orange/Chestnut - With White
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
  • Sex: Female
Dusty is a beautiful 10 pound, 9 year old love bug. She was abandoned at a shelter so we don’t know anything about her life prior to coming into Rescue. Like many Italian Greyhounds she is nervous and shy when she first meets people and she is very selective about whom she trusts; she is drawn to people who have a calm, gentle nature. She enjoys going for walks but is nervous in new surroundings; she gets confidence from her foster mom and foster sister IG. At home, her favorite pastime is being petted and snuggling with her foster mom and dad or snuggling with her foster sister. Dusty had no dental care prior to coming into Rescue; none of her teeth could be saved. She is healthy and happy and has adjusted completely to being toothless; she never has to worry about having her teeth brushed or having future dentals. She is currently on a specific, non-kibble dog food which we would like her new family to continue to provide for her. Dusty is housetrained to use a dog door to take herself outside to potty; she prefers this freedom to choose when she needs to go out so secure outdoor space is a must. Dusty’s ideal new owner will be someone who is calm, nurturing, retired or does not work outside the home so that she can continue to get the love and attention she deserves. She also enjoy having a gentle, small, calm dog companion to help give her confidence. Dusty will not be placed in a home with children or in a noisy, high energy environment. She does have a low prey drive and is considered to be “cat safe”. If you would like the opportunity to have Dusty choose you as her “forever” companion please contact us for an application package.

This dog is being fostered in Los Angeles. If you want to adopt this IGCA Rescue dog, please write or go to and to learn about the IGCA adoption process and receive an application. We are always willing to consider placing a dog out of the area, but applicants are asked to apply to and work with us through their local IGCA Rep. Visit

About Italian Greyhound Rescue Southern California

About Our Rescue Group...

Rescue is a service provided for Italian Greyhounds that have been abandoned at animal shelters, taken from abusive homes, or surrendered to Rescue due to the death or divorce of the former owner. Occasionally, dogs are turned over to Rescue because the owner can no longer keep the dog and the dog was acquired from a source to which it cannot be returned.

IG Rescue members foster these orphans in their homes, where their health and temperament are evaluated, so that they can be placed in a home suitable to both the dog and new owners. Before being placed all dogs are taken for a veterinary check-up where vaccinations are updated, the animal is neutered or spayed, any serious medical conditions are treated, and if necessary, their teeth are cleaned. Each Italian Greyhound can potentially cost Rescue hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars to rehabilitate. All members of Italian Greyhound Rescue, from the board of directors to your local representatives, are strictly volunteers, and do not receive any compensation for their services.

Our Adoption Process...

The process to become approved for adoption includes an application, phone interview, and home visit. Once you are approved, and if one of the fosters fits your lifestyle and needs, as determined by the home visit, we will put you in touch with the foster home where you can go to visit the dog. If we don't have a fit, we will put you on a matching list.

The adoption fees are as follows:
Up to 6 months $375
7 Months to 2 Years $350
3 Years to 8 Years $325
Over 8 years $300

These fees are sent to the Italian Greyhound Rescue Fund to offset the cost of medical expenses of the dog being placed, and provide medical care for future rescue dogs.
