Facts about Delaware

  • Breed: American Bulldog Mix
  • Color: Tan/Yellow/Fawn
  • Age: Senior
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Male
  • ID#: 204
Delaware was picked up on Kenny Nelson Rd on 7/21/16. He is neutered American Bulldog mix. He was very underweight when he came in, but has since put on 10+lbs. He is sweet and loves attention and petting. He is doing well and is a real love bug, giving hugs when he comes out of his kennel to greet you. He needs to be the only dog in a home with no other dogs involved. He absolutely loves people and wants to be your one and only companion. This sweetheart needs a home of his own!

He was adopted out the end of February, but the new owner failed to keep him up, placed him in a crate with another dog where he immediately fought, and then dumped him in a nearby shelter. He was returned in a state where he has scars and scabs all over him. We are treating him with antibiotics now.

The current adoption fee is $75 which includes the dogs spay or neuter and Rabies vaccination at a local vet, and covers the distemper/parvo vaccine and bordetella vaccine and dewormings it receives here at our shelter. No dog will leave the shelter to an adopter without being vetted first.

By TN state law stray dogs are held for 3 days so they can be found by their owners before being put up for adoption or rescue. A dog found as a stray wearing a collar is held for 5 days before it is put up for adoption or rescue. Our shelter is a first come first adopt/rescue facility. There are no holds placed on dogs for potential adopters/rescue, however if a party is interested in a particular dog before it becomes available they may send an inquiry to susan.ragsdale@lewisburgtn.gov and those inquiries will be kept track of in order of received once dog becomes available. Adopters/rescues will be notified what order they are in in regards to each dog. They are available at 8am on the day they are available. Non vetted dogs will have an appointment scheduled and will be available for pickup for adoption the day after their surgery. Approved rescues may pull a dog and have vetted at their own expense once available to the public.

Our Adoption Process...

The city shelter does not have a foster program operated by the city however if you are interested in fostering for a rescue contact the rescue to see if they are willing to pull the dog for you to foster it when the dog is made available for rescue. If you have any questions about any of the dogs please call 931-359-5948 or post a question here. We have a Shelter Manager at the shelter Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 8am-5pm (closed an hour for lunch) and Saturdays 8am-12pm. Volunteers are available on Thursdays from 12-4pm. Our adoption fee is currently $75. This fee covers the spay/neuter/Rabies vax/shelter vax for each dog. No dog will leave the shelter not vetted except to approved rescue. We accept personal checks or correct change when you come in to adopt. You must fill out an adoption application in order to adopt.
The shelter manager and volunteers are at the shelter to help with questions, inquiries on dogs and adoptions. If you call and there's no answer, please leave a message and someone will return your call as soon as they can.
