Cody's Story...
Meet little Cody. He is about 9 months to one year old Shih Tzu. He came to us from Artesia. He was abandoned, with a terrible wound on his little tail. As a result his tail is now, well, a bit shorter. Now for the good stuff. Cody is so sweet, he's very playful and loves kids. We think he would like to have some kids of his own to play with. Cody likes other dogs too, but the only ones he has met so far are old and grouchy. That does not deter him from his mission, which is to have fun! Cody weighs 11 pounds. Potty training is in progress, and he does pretty well, his foster mom just needs to figure out his signals. Cody is not a barker, he only gets on the furniture when invited, and he doesn't beg at the dinner table. We would say he is a well rounded stable little guy and is going to be missed by his foster mom and foster doggies when he finds his forever home. If you would like to make Cody part of your family please fill out an application at and put his name at the top.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Cody, a Tijeras Shih Tzu puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shih Tzu for sale in Tijeras, or seeking a Shih Tzu puppy from a breeder in Tijeras.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Tijeras already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Tijeras breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shih Tzu breeders who help with Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Tijeras paves the way for another one to be saved.
