Cane is being fostered in HOUSTON,TX. He is available for out-of-state adoptions (see below for more details).
Hello. My name is Cane, which is short for Sugarcane. My sponsor told me that I am the color of sugar. She decided that I should have a name that tells everybody what I’m like…sweet as sugar. I was adopted from BARC as a puppy; however, my adopters said that they had “no time” for me and decided to return me to the pound. I walk well on a leash, I’m gentle, and I LOVE to snuggle with humans. I do like to play with other dogs, but I really enjoy those snuggles. I’m used to living in a home, so I’ll fit perfect into yours, if you’d like to give me a chance. Please contact Red Collar Rescue if you would like to meet me. Age: 10-12 mos old Weight: 40 lb Kids: OK Dogs: OK Cats: unknown Needs foster: yes
Please note that this dog is being fostered in HOUSTON, TX. The Houston area adoption fee is $200. Out of state adoption is available. About half of our adoptions are to out-of-area adopters. The out-of-state adoption fee is $550 ($600 Canadian), which includes air transport, traveling crate, and health certificate. RCR takes care of all of the flight arrangements. Because of the distance, it is not possible for you to meet the dog, in person, unless you come to Houston. We can often send videos and/or do FaceTime interviews to allow you to “meet” the dog.
Why should you consider adopting a dog from Houston?
Houston is the #2 kill city in the U.S. City and County shelters often take in a combined 200-300 animals per day. The number of homeless pets and resulting euthanasias are staggering -- the average "live release rate" from Houston area shelters is only about 35-50%. Houston is estimated to have over 1 million homeless animals. Over 100,000 are killed in Harris Co shelters every year. Red Collar Rescue volunteers work tirelessly to save as many as we can, but the Houston area is saturated with so many pets in need of a home and not enough adopters. To put it simply, we encourage out of state adoptions because it helps us save more lives. We hope that you will consider one of our many adoptable pets who are waiting for a second chance at a forever home - wherever it may be!
