Shellie is an adult red-eared slider (semi-aquatic turtle), estimated to be about 6-8 years of age. She's a hearty girl, at about 8 inches. She enjoys taking leisurely laps around her tank and basking with all four feet spread wide to soak up as much sun as possible. She is friendly and will swim to you for food.
Red-eared sliders are a hardy species and great for first time turtle owners. They can live 20+ years and grow to 12" (carapace length). For an aquarium set-up, a good rule of thumb is at least 10 gallons per inch of turtle. Therefore, a single adult slider will require anywhere between a 75 to a 120 gallon tank. Although, they could live in a backyard fenced-in pond during summer months. For basic care info, please visit: www.redearslider.com
