Truman's Story...
Truman is a dapple dachshund. We adopted Truman out when he was 2 yrs old, and upon the birth of their baby, the family decided to return him!!! He is approx 8 yrs old and 14 lbs. Truman is a great little dog. He is quiet and well behaved. He gets along with the other dogs, but prefers the mellow ones as he is an adult! He loves people, is house trained, does well on a leash and would do great in an all adult home, or one with older children. Truman has always lived in a one story home and does not know how to use stairs, which is probably good as too many dachshunds hurt their backs if they fall down. He does prefer to sleep on the couch or his doggie bed - he likes his comfort!!

The total adoption donation of $475 and includes the required interstate health certificate and transport , spay/neuter, shots including rabies, bordatella, parvo, lepto, distemper and canine influenza, and micro chip with a lifetime pre paid registration. The total amount is payable to Shaggy Dog Rescue which is a 501c3. .

Just as a note, if you are in Massachusetts and are adopting directly from Texas rather than from a local foster, there are new quarantine laws in effect. All rescues must be quarantined 48 hours at a state run facility, and in addition, a second interstate health certificate is required to be issued by a Massachusetts vet. This new law adds an additional cost of $125.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Truman, a Woonsocket Dachshund dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund for sale in Woonsocket, or seeking a Dachshund dog from a breeder in Woonsocket.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Woonsocket already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Woonsocket breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund breeders who help with Dachshund rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Woonsocket paves the way for another one to be saved.
