RETTY FOUR PAW POLYDACTYL NEEDS PLACEMENT!! …..A volunteer writes: “Meow!” That’s the super excited way this tuxedo-clad ball of adorableness greeted me when I visited the cat adoption room the other day. Sofie then proceeded to rub the front of her kennel and stick out her paw, two sweet gestures attesting to her love and comfort level with people. This young girl was found on her own, but her finder had terrific things to say, describing her as friendly, smart, well-behaved, and affectionate (obviously!). Clean and neat and quite the dancer and twirler, this happy-go-lucky teenager charms the pants off everyone she meets. You’ll see what I mean if you visit her on 110th street today! Another volunteer writes: “Sofie is a delightful little sweetheart — playful and outgoing, she just can’t wait to be picked up and toted around to check out her roommates. She hugs and purrs, making a most gratifying companion. At 9 months, she has many years ahead to enjoy with you.”…..ONLY 9 MONTHS OLD & SUPER SWEET!! MAKE HER YOURS

Please note: kittens must be adopted in pairs or to households with age appropriate cat(s) to ensure proper socialization and companionship. NO exceptions! If you would prefer a solo cat, we would be happy to recommend those cats who would do best as solo cats.

All our cats are tested for feline leukemia and FIV and also microchipped.
Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Sundays and sometimes Saturday--please ask by writing us at and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too. Please come! And if you can't adopt, you can always donate!

If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet.  It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Sundays usually and some Saturdays.  Follow us on FB for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered. About Zani's Furry Friends--Northern Outpost

About Our Rescue Group...

Because of the pressing cage space dilemma, we take dogs and cats primarily from Animal Care & Control of NYC. If not for rescue and adoptions, more than the present 24,000 of the current 50,000 animals taken in yearly would not make it out alive. Our goal is to take as many animals as we can who make great family members/companions and give them a second chance. Temperament is our most important criteria. Ideally, all our animals are good w/ people of all ages and other animals (dogs/cats).
Our adoptees are either spayed or neutered, all UTD w/ shots/rabies vax, heartworm negative or feline combo negative, and microchipped. Most of our animals live in foster situations to help them reintegrate back into family life. We feel most animals prefer the company of other animals and hope our adopters consider giving pets to their pets. (We do apply the 2 kitty rule.)
Other times, we courtesy post for people who are obliged to surrender their animals but ask that they continue to foster their companions until appropriate new homes are found to limit the trauma.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Most of our foster animals are in foster homes in or around New York City where they can be seen via appointment w/ the foster family.

We sometimes participate in events sponsored by the Mayor's Alliance of NYC of which we are proud to say we are a participating organization.

Sometimes, unfortunately, our animals are still in the NYC Animal Care and Control facilities for which we desperately seek foster care.

Our Adoption Process...

There is an application, reference checks, home visits, an interview of adopters w/ adoptees, and an adoption donation is required.

Applications are on
