Cirus is a 9 month old Collie/German Shephard mix and when he’s fully grown we expect him to be about 80 pounds.
Cirus came to us covered in mange, horribly undernourished and in so much pain he cried when we tried to pet him. His entire body was covered in sores and so swollen that it was painful for him to move. Time, love, patience, good food and some really strong antibiotics have turned him into the stunning new version of himself we see today!
As we got to know him, we realized that he had not been properly fed, he had little to no exercise, his muscles were atrophied and he was socially regressed. At 9 months old we are watching him do and learn what most puppies learn at 2 and 3 months old. But he is smart and a quick learner and wants to please us, so he is doing fabulous! He is working on being fully house broken, crate trained and leash trained and he keeps us laughing with his antics. He loves to go out into the back yard and find anything that he can play with and bring them into the house. He’s a happy, happy boy now but still has a few minor issues with being ‘mouthy’ or trying to herd us (which cracks us up!), not realizing how big he really is. Cirus melts our hearts and we know in time, with training and more patience he will be a well mannered young man.
He’s very cautious around other dogs when he first meets them but mostly he just wants to play with them. We haven’t met any that he hasn’t won over in his playful initiation. We haven’t seen him interact with cats or other small animals.
Because Cirus still thinks he’s a puppy and doesn’t realize how big he is he’s probably going to do best with a family that doesn’t have small children so he doesn’t knock them down.
