Chico's Story...
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Chico is a very sweet chihuahua who is just 7 pounds. He's 6 years old and has a unique black and brown brindle coloring. Chico has 2 modes – happy and sleeping. His tail wags all the time. Loves to be outside and just watch the world go by. Rarely barks and is housebroken, but needs to get out every 4-5 hours. Likes to be held and will be your shadow. Does great on the leash and will sit on command. Would be great for someone who wants an easy-going companion at home with them all day. He’s very laid back so he would be best in a house with not a lot of commotion or small kids, just because he’s so small. He does very well with other dogs as long as they’re not aggressive with him. I don’t know about cats but I’m guessing he would be fine. Chico was surrendered by his owner who wasn’t able to give him the time and attention he deserves. He has been recently neutered and vaccinated. He’s currently with a foster family and looking for his forever home! For more information about Chico please contact lynette-eldred@uiowa.edu. The adoption application can be completed at www.lasthoperescueia.org/adopt. Indoor homes only. Adoption donation $250.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Chico, a Cedar Rapids Chihuahua dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chihuahua for sale in Cedar Rapids, or seeking a Chihuahua dog from a breeder in Cedar Rapids.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Cedar Rapids already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Cedar Rapids breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chihuahua breeders who help with Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Cedar Rapids paves the way for another one to be saved.
