Meet Brownie! Brownie is a stunning two-year old female. Her former owners even registered her with AKC. She is the poster-girl, black and tan everyone thinks of when they think of German Shepherds. Brownie is a bit on the heavier side, weighing in at 96 lbs. She could definitely stand to lose a few pounds, but she is healthy nonetheless. Brownie’s former owners let her "free-feed", which is part of the reason why she is overweight. Her foster family has eight other dogs and have been patiently working to get her on a 2-feeding per day schedule.
Like all young German Shepherds Brownie is a high-energy girl who needs an active home with a GSD-savvy owner where she will ideally be the only active dog. She also definitely could benefit from some training too, as her behavior seems to indicate she had was “queen of the castle” in her last home. Brownie loves to play and loves toys, chasing a ball or frisbee, but has yet to figure out the game involved dropping them to your feet, something her foster family is trying to work on. She does try to steal toys from another dog's mouth; which can lead to arguments in the pack and needs to be trained out of her. Having a job to keep her busy and burn off some of her excess energy would go a long way to helping her mentally and physically. She would make a great hiking or jogging partner.
When she settles, Brownie will sit, offer a paw and lay down for a belly rub, but don't expect her to stay there very long! Brownie is easily distracted, especially if there is nearby excitement. Brownie loves attention and will follow your every step. She isn't a roamer and is generally good with dogs (see the bad habits of stealing toys), cats and children, but smaller children may get knocked over with her bad manners. She can be a bit skittish at times and will bark when bored.
