Initially found as a stray, Rufus found himself at an animal shelter and when nobody picked him up he was in need of a place to go. Rufus is a sweet little boy who needs someone with understanding and willingness to allow him to set his own boundaries and warm up on his terms. When first placed into foster care, Rufus was extremely fearful to the point of snapping. He has improved tremendously, however, still is wary of being picked up or people getting close to his face. This is something that may continue to improve with time, but given we are unsure of his treatment prior to coming to the rescue there is a possibility he may always be fearful or snappy with these things. Rufus is very loving and snuggly when he is allowed to set the pace and gets along great with other dogs.

Special Needs: heart murmur, Rufus requires an oral medication twice daily which costs less than $20 per month supply.
