My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a standard grey female chinchilla who’s looking for her new home. She came to NWI a few months ago, with some cagemates, when her owner became unable to keep them. Unfortunately, both of her cagemates caught a virus, and despite aggressive treatment, passed away. Lizzie actually never came down with the virus, and we have held onto her for an additional two months here to ensure that she really is doing well and really is ready to go to her new home, and she is now looking for her new home!

Lizzie’s color is called standard grey, which means she is grey over most of her body, with a white belly.

Lizzie’s previous owner did not tell us exactly how old she is, but based off the ages of her cagemates (which we know, because they were chinchillas adopted from our rescue), we estimate that she’s between 4 and 5 years old.

Lizzie is a sweet girl. She can be more of an active girl at times, as she does enjoy hopping around her cage and checking things out. She may hide at first, but if you calmly sit by her cage, she will creep up to the front to see what you are doing. She’s a sweet girl, just a bit shy. She does well with being held and petted, and doesn’t bite.

She would make a great “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had one before.

This chinchilla is currently caged alone, however, she did well when she was caged with her cagemates when she first came here. They all got along wonderfully together, so we anticipate that she might do well with buddies again. However, we cannot make any guarantees. If you are interested in pairing her up with your, or one of our, chinchillas, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (Mazuri pellets), a goodie bag of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. He will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

Lizzie is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

Lizzie’s adoption fee is $75
