Benny's Story...
Hello, my name is Benny and I am almost 6 years young Shih Tzu. My owner gave me up because she was moving and couldn’t take me with her. She asked an IAR Volunteer for help. I was very sad when I 1st came to my foster home but I slowly adjusted. When I first came to IAR I needed a lot of help. See, my previous owner neglected me in certain ways: physically and emotionally. Physically, IAR has taken care of me by taking me to the vet and I am all better but emotionally, I needed to see a person to help me. First, IAR tried socializing me within my foster home because that’s what I needed the most – to be around other dogs and basically learn to be a dog; learn rules and structure but sometimes I don’t like to be around other dogs. I love attention and I get jealous when there are other dogs around. So IAR took me to a Trainer, we call him my Coach. Coach evaluated me and I am not aggressive dog but just a dog that lacked structure and rules. So I am getting it in his home. I am staying there so I can live in his pack and boy do I get the socialization with his dogs. I do get a little bossy with his dogs but Coach gives his commands and I behave. My next home will need to continue my training and continue my structure so I don’t become a spoiled dog or dog that had no rules. I am not food aggressive and I walk very well on my leash. But I might get a little barky or lunge at other dogs so that’s where you need to be the Leader, not me. Coach and an IAR Volunteer will help you. I like to spend my days lying by your feet and if you let me I can lay by you on the couch when you watch TV. When you come home I will greet you at the door. I’ve been crate trained and I don’t mind it. I might bark at the beginning but I get used to it. I don’t really play with my toys but more lay on them but I am not aggressive or guard them. I really am a good boy that wishes someone would love me again but love me enough to provide structure, proper vetting and love. Would you like to meet me? I hope so. All you have to do to meet me is get in touch with IAR. In the meanwhile, I will hang out at Coach’s learning new rules … waiting for you to arrange our meeting. Thanks, Benny

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Benny, a Palatine Shih Tzu dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shih Tzu for sale in Palatine, or seeking a Shih Tzu dog from a breeder in Palatine.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Palatine already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Palatine breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shih Tzu breeders who help with Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Palatine paves the way for another one to be saved.
