Additional Information:

Tika is an absolute love and hasn't met a person she didn't like. She is an incredibly sweet dog who can’t seem to believe her luck at getting a second chance with City Dogs Rescue. She is patiently waiting to find her people, and when she does, she will shower them with endless affection. She is calm, hasn’t had any accidents, and almost never barks. Tika is amazingly trusting and has been great with all handling. She is a cuddler and is happy to snuggle for hours. She bonds quickly and strongly with her people and is very loyal.

Tike loves playing with her toys and already knows “drop it.” Tika walks beautifully on the leash and enjoys a couple good walks per day in the fresh air. Crowds and noisy traffic do not faze her, and she has been calm with bicycles, skateboards, and Segways zooming by on the sidewalk. She is working on building her confidence in meeting new dogs and has done well walking with calm, friendly dogs but can be intimidated by rambunctious pups. She is great with people and is very trusting. She is even happy and cooperative during bath time and for nail trimming! She has the cutest bunny ears that go up and down, and her tail wags when she gets any attention from her people. She is a real gem who will continue to blossom with love – apply today to meet her!

Tika is generously sponsored by Anna Urman and family in memory of their dog, Tycho.

If you are interested in meeting a dog, we require an adoption application. Visit to apply.

If a dog has "NEEDS FOSTER" listed, they are still available for adoption. Information about our current dogs in need of fosters can be found here: and the application to foster is here:

City Dogs Rescue is a foster based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model).

Prior to arrival, all of our dogs are spayed/neutered (unless specified) and given shots for Rabies, Distemper DHPP, and Bordatella. They are tested for Heartworm, Lyme, Anaplasma, and Ehrlichia. They are dewormed at least twice and given a health check by the vet.   Most dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken or crate trained.  Our adoption fee is $395 (including puppies) unless noted -- senior dogs are available for an adoption fee of $200.

We also update our  Facebook page  daily with new dogs.

City Dogs Rescue is a rescue, not a shelter, and our dogs are located in temporary foster homes in the Washington, DC metro region.  Adoption fee, home visit, and application required. CDR charges an adoption fee of $395 unless specified. This fee typically includes health care provided before adoption: all age-appropriate rabies, distemper, and bordetella vaccinations, flea and heartworm prevention prior to adoption, spay/neuter procedure, microchip when available, SNAP test for parasites, initial health check vet visit when going from the municipal shelter to City Dogs Rescue, and pre-adoption health care for dogs over the age of 1 year as needed. For puppies too young for spay/neuter: The fee is the same but does not include the cost of spaying and neutering.

About City Dogs Rescue DC

About Our Rescue Group...

City Dogs Rescue was formed for one reason: to rescue adoptable dogs in overcrowded and high-kill shelters where resources are severely limited. We want to offer a lifeline to as many of these wonderful pups as possible. Sadly, nearly all of the dogs that City Dogs Rescue takes in are just days and sometimes hours away from being euthanized, for no reason other than lack of space. By finding these dogs permanent and loving homes in the DC metropolitan area, we can enrich lives - both human and canine. We are excited to embark on this journey, and we welcome your help in any capacity – through volunteering, fostering, adopting, and/or donating.

Come Meet Our Pets...

All our dogs are located in Washington, DC either in foster homes or at City Dogs. Please email us to schedule a visit!

Our Adoption Process...

1. Fill out an Adoption Application.
2. We will have a brief conversation with you to determine your needs and preferences, find out about your daily schedule, and talk about your previous experience, if any, with pets.
3. If applicable, we will call your veterinarian to ensure that previous pets have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and well cared for. We may also call references listed on your application.
4. For renters, we’ll check with your landlord to ensure that dogs are permitted and that the dog that you’re adopting wouldn’t violate any size or breed restrictions.
5. We will visit your home to see the environment where the dog will live and answer any questions you might have. This is a great opportunity for you to get valuable input on how to integrate your new pet into your home.
6. Finally, we will enter into an adoption contract, and you will be required to pay an adoption fee which covers spay/neutering*, microchipping, vaccinations, and first initial vet visit.
7. Most importantly, enjoy life with your new companion!

* If you are adopting a puppy, depending on the age of the puppy she/he may not yet be spayed/neutered. In this case, you will be required to schedule an appointment for the spay/neuter procedure for your new companion and sign an agreement in which you agree to spay/neuter your pet within a certain number of days.
