My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rio! What a party this little boy is! Even his coat is having a party! We are guessing at his mix but did have someone tell us he looks like a dog they had which was a Basenji/Chihuahua mix and they seem to be pretty spot-on, so that is what we are going with.

Rio is only just now about three months old and is already about 10 pounds He will probably be closer to 20 pounds at most is what our thoughts are when full grown.

Being such a young thing, Rio thinks every human, cat, dog, you name it, loves him as much as he loves them. He can be a little much at first for an older dog but he is learning with their corrections what is acceptable.

Not noisy at all unless he needs something or there really is something to worry about, he is even quiet in his crate through the night and during nap times. He is doing well on house training but will need his people to continue with his good work. He does have submissive/excited leakage which is not unusual for his age so he should outgrow it.

Rio lives in a house with a one year old and does great. But we do ask that he go to a home where adults and children alike have experience with small dogs.

If you are interest in meeting and adopting Rio, read on or go to the Adoption Process page of our website - throwmeabonedogrescue.org.

All potential adopters are expected to complete an application and provide pictures of their yard, patio, and/or balcony making sure we can see the fence line and/or railing. The application can be completed and submitted from our website - throwmeabonedogrescue.org - and is found under Resources. Applications will be reviewed for approval before setting an appointment to come meet and possibly adopt the dog of interest. In addition, those who live in a rental property are expected to provide proof that they are allowed to have a dog where they live.

Each of our rescued dogs has been de-wormed if necessary, de-flea'd (with topical treatment if old enough, and by medicated bath if too young), spayed/neutered, microchipped, is up to date on shots, and has been fully examined by a veterinarian. In addition, each adopted dog comes with a starter baggie of the food it has been eating, a few treats for training purposes, a rawhide chew, a lead and collar, and a folder containing pertinent records.
