Facts about Kane

  • Breed: German Shepherd Dog
  • Color: Black - With Tan, Yellow Or Fawn
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
  • Sex: Male
Kane is a handsome and stoic guy estimated around 3 years of age. Kane was a stray in the Louisville Metro and has the fly bitten ears to document having spent a long time outdoors. Unfortunately we do not know anything about his life prior to the shelter so all of our information is based off of getting to know him.

Kane has mixed reviews on his personality right now. He had a very rough neuter the day we picked him up from the shelter so grumpy is mild when describing his mood. Kane didn't make any friends with the vet staff over his refusal to be restrained but allowed us to walk him out of the shelter just fine. As of writing this we have had Kane for about 10 days and he is slowly coming out of his shell. He has been friendly meeting new people if not a bit aloof. He has met some kids 4 years old and up with no issues. Kane is just a very stoic guy and he isn't into the sweet cuddly stuff. He is also a talker but not in a cute way - he will grumble and growl at certain things but has not offered to bite. Although the vet aged him at 3 years old Kane can best be described as a grumpy old man who likes to complain about things.

Kane cannot figure the other dos out at all. He doesn't offer any aggression however he thinks he wants to assert himself as a dominate male. I say thinks because he doesn't seem to know how to do this - it is mildly entertaining. He has been getting along well with a group of rowdy young dogs but is often faded to the sidelines. He has tried to get into the mix of things once or twice but doesn't know how to play so he quickly bows out.

Kane is just a socially awkward grump looking for someone who sees the potential in cracking his personality shell to find the devoted family dog underneath.

About Tier Haven Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Tier Haven Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit animal rescue agency based in Louisville, KY that specializes in German Shepherds and similar working breeds. Tier Haven realizes that many German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs) find themselves in shelters due to a lack of training and understanding of the breed. Tier Haven is a no-kill rescue which limits the number of dogs we can care for at any given time for this reason Tier Haven focuses on taking dogs from shelters that are in direct risk of euthanasia and has a separate policy for owner surrenders.

Surrender Policy

Tier Haven accepts owner surrenders on a conditional basis due to the large number of dogs in kill shelters. If you have a dog you would like to surrender you must email pictures and the reason for surrendering to Tier Haven does charge a fee for surrendering a dog; $80 for a fully vetted dog (vaccinations, alter, heartworm test) when vet records are provided and $150 for un-vetted dogs.

Our Adoption Process...

Tier Haven requires an adoption application to be completed and processed prior to meeting or adopting any of our dogs. As a completely foster based organization Tier Haven relies on the application to help ensure that adopters are only meeting dogs that are suitable for their household based on various factors. The application is completed via email and you may email us at to obtain an application. When submitting an application please contact your vet clinic and provide them with a release of information and also inform your personal references that they will be contacted.

Once your application is processed you will be contacted by a volunteer to discuss potential dogs and arrange a meet and greet. Since we are a foster based group we only allow up to three (3) dogs on each meet and greet to keep it manageable for everyone. Meet and greets are often held at public locations to respect the privacy of our foster homes and they are scheduled at the discretion of the foster homes.

Tier Haven charges an adoption fee of $250 for each dog. This includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, heart-worm test, micro-chip, and monthly preventative care while with our organization. All medical records are provided at the time of adoption along with an adoption contract.
