My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dixie is 4 and 1/2 and appears to do fine with small dogs and cars She like kids, too.

Hello, all y'all! I was a racing dog in Alabama, but decided to retire in Arizona. I arrived late Tuesday night with a bunch of other doggies. I moved directly into a foster home. Score! So far, the pet thing seems pretty easy. I follow my foster mom around the house and play with squeaky toys. I even go in and out the doggie door if foster mom holds the flap up for me.

I've only been in trouble once so far. When we got home Tuesday night it was after midnight, but I... wasn't one bit tired. I wanted to have dinner and drinks, explore the house, run around the yard and generally make a ruckus. I was a good dog last night, and only got up once to potty, so I think my foster mom has forgiven me.

I can't wait to meet my forever family! Maybe we'll stay up all night one night eating popcorn and watching dog movies or Lassie reruns. I heard one episode features a greyhound!

Happy as a Lamb in Pajamas,

Dixie

FOSTER UPDATE:

Dixie was an insta-pet. She walked into the house and acted like she'd lived here her entire life. Dixie learned to use the dog door very quickly, sleeps through the night, walks calmly on a leash and loves riding in the car. She takes noises and new experiences in stride, exhibiting no fearfulness

Dixie is living with a male greyhound, female greyhound and whippet. She's had no issues with any of them, but isn't interested in interacting with them. Dixie would prefer to play with squeaky toys. As a result, we think she would be fine as an only dog.

As is typical, Dixie was velcro for the first few days, following us everywhere. Now that she has gained more confidence, she is comfortable playing or napping in another room. She is friendly and happy, but doesn't seek a lot of attention. Dixie is most interested in being pet when another hound is getting attention, not wanting to be left out.

We have left Dixie for a few hours home alone with the other dogs with no issues. We no longer crate her. Dixie is a BAD counter-surfer, so you need to ensure there is no food on the counters for her to swipe. She left a trail of shredded cheese throughout our house...

Dixie will adjust easily to a new home, quiet or busy, as an only dog or one of many. Dixie is quite keen on attacking squeaking toys and mauling them until they stop squeaking.
