Cocoa, a 4 1/2 years old, 7 lbs male terrier/Chihuahua mix, loves playing with squeaky toys, tug of war, fetch and walks. He is in great health and loves to sleep with his person. He has a feisty personality and is somewhat territorial and head-shy (approach him so he sees your hand holding treat; don't just pick him up or put hand behind his head), and he barks at noises. Be nice and understanding to him, he'll be nice to you. Probably best as an only dog, as he might get jealous of another dog. He was rescued after being found wandering the street a few years ago.

If you would like to meet Cocoa or get more information about him, contact Sharon McDonnell at

About Grateful Dogs Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Grateful Dogs Rescue was founded in 1990; its mission is to rescue dogs not made available for adoption at San Francisco Animal Care and Control and other local shelters through no fault of their own. Rather than letting these dogs be euthanized, Grateful Dogs saves as many as possible by fostering these dogs until a loving home is found.

Grateful Dogs Rescue is always in need of new foster homes!  You can make a difference by fostering. The number of dogs we can save is dependent on having foster parents to care for them until they find their forever homes.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our dogs live in nurturing foster homes provided by volunteers. If you are interested in adopting one of our Grateful dogs, please complete our adoption application. One of our volunteers will get back to you.

Our Adoption Process...

The Grateful Dogs Rescue adoption procedure is designed to find a good match between the dog and adopter. Our goal is a happy human and happy dog in a "forever home." The adoption procedure includes an application, interview, home inspection, and an adoption fee. The adoption fee helps to cover spay/neuter, shots and other medical care given before the dog is made available for adoption.
