Sweet Joann has lived a tough life. Before SAPA! and Vet Ranch intervened, she was in bad shape. She had an enormous cancerous tumor on her side that was causing quite a bit of pain. She also had heartworms. Thankfully, Vet Ranch got ahold of her and gave her a new 'leash' on life! Check out the video of her amazing progress.

Joann is now ready to find her forever home. She has finished her heartworm treatment, her tumor has been removed and she has been spayed. She is quiet and crate trained. She is non-reactive to other dogs. She would do best in a home where she could get used to her surroundings and settle in as she is completely deaf and needs to feel comfortable and safe with her area as she senses it. She is about 6-7 yrs old and weighs about 50 lbs.

She was scheduled to be euthanized, but San Antonio Pets Alive! saved her and now they are helping her find the forever, loving home that she has never known.

She is currently located at San Antonio Pets Alive!, and is in a foster home. By adopting her, you not only give her a new leash on life; you also save the life of the additional dog who can be rescued from euthanasia and placed in foster care.

If you are interested in adopting, please email with Pet name and ID#. Please allow us up to 24 hours to respond as all fosters work with us on a volunteer basis.

About San Antonio Pets Alive

About Our Rescue Group...

San Antonio Pets Alive (SAPA!) is a new organization that will be modeled after the very successful Austin Pets Alive (APA). APA was instrumental in helping Austin achieve their goal of no longer euthanizing healthy, adoptable pets from the city shelter. SAPA has teamed up with Animal Care Services in order for the city of SA to reach their no-kill goal.

In partnership with San Antonio’s Animal Care Services, we are implementing innovative and progressive programs to:

Rescue as many pets as possible off of the daily “euthanasia list”. In our rescue program, to not duplicate work of other agencies, we focus solely on the pets who have already been passed over by other groups and the shelters’ adoption programs and create programs to save their lives and find them new homes.

Our rescue program is focused 100% on the dogs and cats who are about to be killed. We wait until the shelters have chosen the pets they want for their adoption programs and other rescue groups have pulled the pets that they can take, then we go in and rescue the rest that we can fit into our programs.
